Delta Gamma Foundation & Service For Sight
Internationally, the Delta Gamma Foundation supports Service for Sight to aid those who are visually impaired. It has been at the heart of Delta Gamma's philanthropic mission since 1936. The Foundation has given over $2.8 million in Service for Sight grants to organizations and schools that share our mission since its incorporation in 1951. In the past twenty years, 1.5 million hours have been logged for Service for Sight!
Giving back:
Delta Gamma women participate in multiple volunteer activities based around our national philanthropy: Service for Sight.
RFBD: Each semester at UGA, we hold atleast 1 Record A Thon at the Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic Center. Throughout the week, our sisters pair up and record audio textbooks taking turns reading and directing. Sometimes even specials guests make an appearance! The past two years UGA's own Hairy Dawg has come for a photo opportunity!
Prevent Blindness Georgia: With service close to our hearts, the DG's at UGA love helping out local organizations with similar philanthropic goals. We have multiple women serving positions with Prevent Blindness Georgia. Girls can help with vision screenings at local elementary schools and work one on one with the kids. DG also helps PBGA throughout the year with their events. Last year, the chapter made ornaments and decorated the PBGA Christmas Tree at the Festival of Trees in Atlanta.
Delta Gamma women also collect boxtops and soup labels for education to send to Georgia's school for the blind. Collecting used eyeglasses, cell phones, and large print books are just some of the things Delta Gamma does on a regular basis. We dontate these items to the Lions Club where glasses are refurbished and cell phone are recycled. DG's also collect dog supplies to donate to the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind. Each semester we donate over 300 cans of dog food and multiple toys and necessities to this deserving program.
