Service for Sight has been at the heart of Delta Gamma’s philanthropic mission since 1936. The Delta Gamma Foundation has given over $2.8 million in Service for Sight grants to organizations and schools that share our mission.
Service for Sight, provides aid for the blind and the visually impaired. The Delta Gamma Foundation supports this cause, as well as DGs all over the world. We support our philanthropy in various ways throughout each semester by following our Founders' motto of "Do Good."
We also collect Campbell's Soup labels and Box Tops for Education in order to support the Atlanta School for the Blind, and volunteer at Arbor Terrace Assisted Living Home here in Athens through our Golden Anchor Program.
Anchor Slam
Our biggest event each year is Anchor Slam, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament. This spring, we had 12 teams participate and donated some of the proceeds to the Delta Gamma Foundation as well as UGA HEROS, an on-campus organization that benefits children with HIV/AIDS. All the teams had a blast with their DG coaches.
We'd like to thank the following fraternities, clubs, and teams who participated:
Alpha Gamma Rho,
Delta Sigma Phi,
Delta Tau Delta,
Phi Kappa Theta,
Kappa Alpha,
Phi Delta Theta,
Phi Kappa Psi,
Sigma Phi Epsilon,
Tau Kappa Epsilon,
Sigma Nu,
A Town Clowns,
Sigma Pi, and
The Ducks
Low Country Boil
Each fall, we have our annual philanthropy dinner, Low Country Boil. We serve a shrimp, sausage, corn and potato boil dinner to many of our fellow Greeks and other campus and community guests on our front lawn. This past fall, we not only supported our Foundation and Service for Sight, but also Dance Marathon, which benefits Children's Miracle Network.
Other Philanthropy
Of course, we support all campus and Greek philanthropy events. In 2009, Delta Gamma placed in the top ten in Sigma Chi Derby Days and we cannot wait for this year's competition
